Recon Riding
It is tough at times. It is tough to find the right balance for the 'best' route for the Arden2Eifel route. We rode many different paths over the past years and months to make Arden2Eifel a challenging but pleasing adventure (some type 2 fun here and there :)). Many paths are amazing but don't allow for good connections between desired route hot spots. Other paths are great in winter, but not so much in summer. Furthermore, there are the privatized paths you need to bypass. Lastly and perhaps equally important, the path itself may be nice but not in the context of what comes before and after. Balance is the key word which makes crafting a route an organic and intricate process at times. Nevertheless, each time we go out to explore we come back with smiles on our faces.

A few route reminders & suggestions

  • MTB strongly recommended: there are easier fire roads, but overall the safest en most enjoyable way to do Arden2Eifel is with an MTB. Terrain is rocky (at times muddy) and descents can be tricky.

  • Break it down in little chunks: you have 100 hours or just over 4 days to complete 660 km and 12.000 elevation. You don't need to cover 200 km a day to make it.

  • Look closely at the route beforehand and plan ahead: the route GPX will be shared around 2-3 weeks in advance. There will be easier sections and slower sections, make sure to calculate this in for both your eat and sleep strategy as well as being mentally prepped that some parts won't be fast.

  • As it is an A to B route, we provide luggage service (small backpacks only) from the start to finish. Trains are going from Trier-Luxembourg-Namen and take you about 3-4 hours. Please check if your train carries bikes (and sometimes reservation is required).

The coming 6-8 weeks we will round up our recon riding to do the final tweaks to the route.

Still hesitant about participation? Give us a call or sent us an e-mail. We are happy to advice and think along.

Safe riding!
